The Farm & Gardens

Our guests are free to make the most of the large, sunny courtyard and lawned garden—a peaceful spot to sit back at the end of the day and watch the sun dip down over the fields.

Dairy Barns sits at the heart of a 360-acre working farm, a patchwork of grazing marsh and arable land that changes with the seasons. In the colder months, you’ll often see sheep grazing quietly, while summer brings our herd of beef cattle and calves out into the fields. Ian, a third-generation farmer, has worked this land since taking over from his father in the early 2000s, continuing a way of life that’s been rooted here for generations. We grow wheat, barley, peas, potatoes, and grass for hay and haylage.

Farming here goes hand in hand with caring for the countryside. We’ve recently set aside more areas for wildlife, created habitats for wading birds, and planted a young woodland of 400 trees. Over the coming months, new hedgerows will be laid and wildflower plots sown, bringing even more life to the farm.

There’s plenty to explore, with quiet farm tracks, open meadows and fields under big Norfolk skies. If you’re lucky, you might catch sight of the red deer that slip out from the woods at dusk, or spot muntjac, Chinese water deer, and the occasional hare in the fields.
