The Best Places for Paddle Boarding in the Norfolk Broads

I love paddle boarding, I even mange to stand up sometimes! Here are my favourite places not too far from Dairy Barns to enjoy the water, I always go to spots which are considered non-navigable to boats or have limited boat traffic as it is much more relaxing and there are some beautiful smaller parts of the broads to explore.

Mayton Bridge to Buxton or Coltishall

There is a tiny carpark at Mayton Bridge near Buxton and you can launch your board for free. The water is out of navigation and you can head towards Buxton Mill or Horstead Bridge. If you have family members who prefer dry land they can follow your route along the public footpath beside the river. What 3 Words Location ///increment.sorters.december

Coltishall and Horstead

Park by the Rising Sun pub on Coltishall Common (a great spot for lunch), you can launch your own board for free or hire one from the Canoe Man who has boards and canoes on the water by the pub. If you go left along the river it is quite wide and there is some boat traffic or go left and you reach the end of navigation and follow the narrow winding river to Horstead Mill pond. https://thecanoeman.com/ What 3 Words ///inflamed.headache.consoled

Dilham Hall Retreats - Dilham Canal

At Dilham you can pay to launch your own board or hire a board (or canoe) and buoyancy aids. I absolutely love it here, there is a large grass car park where you can stay and have a picnic afterwards and the canal feels so remote and wild, In the summer months it is alive with Damselfly and Dragonflies, you feel so far removed from the everyday hustle and bustle of life, it is magical. http://www.dilhamhall.co.uk/canoe-hire/

Hickling Broad

Hickling is one of the larger broads and it is possible to launch your board at the public staithe (£5 charge). Hickling is a quieter area of water than say Wroxham as a lot of the larger boats can’t get under the bridges to get here. The Pleasure Boat pub has a large garden so is a great spot to have a drink in the sun after your paddle!
