To help make your December or Christmas stay with us extra special, we have pulled together some local festive events.
There are lots of Christmas events in Norfolk this year – from festive Christmas boat rides to Santa’s Grottos and fabulous Christmas light trails.
Wroxham Barns Christmas Experience
When: Every weekend in December plus 19th -24th December
Where: Wroxham Barns
Decorate Gingerbread in Mrs Claus’ kitchen, visit Father Christmas and receive a quality present, make reindeer food, sort letters in Santa’s mailroom and take part in the snow-Olympics. Tickets include access to the Junior farm and unlimited rides at the fun park.
Festive Express 2022
When: Every weekend in December plus 19th -24th December
Where: Bure Valley Railway
Hop on board one of Bure Valley Railway’s Festive Express steam trains this December. Enjoy a 1-hour experience from our Aylsham Station, including festive treats, a 30-minute steam train ride and a visit to see Santa in his grotto. Each child will receive a personalised present from Santa himself.
Santa Cruise River Trip
When: Selected dates in December
Where: Broads Tours, Wroxham
Santa Claus is returning to the Broads to make this Christmas extra special with a brand-new Santa grotto aboard the Queen of the Broads. Santa Cruises leaves from Broad Tours boatyard in Wroxham; trips are 1½ hours, departing at 11 am and 2 pm. Santa’s Elves will have a gift bag for all children aboard, and they will be able to visit Santa in his new grotto and receive a present from Santa himself! Santa hasn’t forgotten about all the adults aboard, who’ll receive a glass of mulled wine and a festive treat. As we cruise down to Wroxham Broad, you’ll be able to enjoy the festive music and activities aboard.
Garden of lights at Blickling
When: 28 November – 18 December (4pm – 8pm)
Where: Blicking Hall (National Trust), Blickling, Alysham
Enjoy Christmas’s colours, smells and sounds at Blickling Hall, National Trust. Begin your evening visit through the magically lit walled garden before discovering the Parterre and Orangery gardens illuminated with colour and light. Head towards the Temple for warming mulled wine, spiced apple juice, mince pies and gingerbread, or enjoy something more substantial from the outdoor food offers on the front drive.
Thursford Christmas Spectacular
When: 8th November – 23rd December (2.00pm & 7.00pm)
Where: Thursford Collection, Thursford, Fakenham, Norfolk
Thursford Christmas Spectacular is set in the magical surroundings of mechanical organs and fairground carousels, with a cast of 120 professional singers, dancers, and musicians – most of whom are straight out of the West End. The three-hour performance delivers an extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour, and variety. It’s a fast-moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic mix of seasonal and year-round favourites, with famous and much-loved chart toppers performed alongside traditional carols.
Fairhaven Garden Christmas Lights Walks
When: From the 26th November (4.30pm onwards)
Where: Fairhaven Gardens, South Walsham
Enjoy the magic of the gardens after dark, lit up by glowing Christmas lights. Follow the lights trail around the gardens and spot the hidden twinkles through the trees. From the Sensory Garden to the crocodile walk, you´ll get the sense of Christmas come early and get that seasonal tingle of excitement. Finish up with a warm cup of Hot Chocolate or a lovely mulled wine to sip under the Lights in the picnic area. Maybe even grab a marshmallow to toast on our fire pit.
The Norfolk Lights Express
When: 11 November – 2 January
Where: North Norfolk Railway (Sheringham Station)
Arrive after dark at Sheringham Station, and you’ll be greeted by the magical site of a steam-hauled train illuminated by thousands of tiny lights.
During the 5½ mile journey to Holt, you’ll pass around 10 colourful lit-up dioramas on the lineside or dramatically set in the woods adjoining the track. These create an intriguing story brought to life by the onboard narration and music.
The Cromer Pier Christmas Show
When: 26th November – 30th December 2022
Where: Cromer Pier
The Cromer Pier Christmas Show will warm your hearts and get you well and truly in the Christmas spirit with a heap of festive fun. Expect laughs by the bucket load, thrilling speciality acts, powerhouse vocals, and spellbinding dance routines.
