Norfolk’s world first twin seals …

We love “our” seals which appear on the beach between Horsey and Winterton every winter with hundreds of pups arriving during the course of the pupping season.  Watched over by Friends of Horsey Seals volunteer seal wardens, this season saw what was thought to be the first ever recorded twin birth in the world.

Now this has been confirmed following testing by The Institute of Marine Research in Norway which revealed the pups do have the same mother.  The pups – a male and a female – were rescued after their mother had not fed them for 24 hours and taken to the RSPCA Hospital at East Winch where they were named R2-D2 and C-3PO where they are both reported to be in good health

Last year, 60,000 people visited the colony where 800 seal pups were born and we are supporting the work of The Friends of Horsey Seals with a voluntary £1 contribution on every booking taken this year.
