Our Best Local Farm shops

We are so lucky to have a great selection of Farm shops in Norfolk, perfect for grocery shopping when staying in one of our self-catering cottages (I know a supermarket delivery is convenient, but farm shops are far more interesting) and ideal for a treat or evening nibbles when staying in bed and breakfast. Staying local this year has allowed me to shop local, and it really made a difference in what we have eaten as a family.

Asparagus Season is amazing here as they grow their own, and it’s so fresh. They also stock tasty cakes, and fresh bread, and have a fridge full of local meats and pies among so much more. I tend to visit on a Wednesday afternoon when the local fishmonger has a stall there, lots of fish from the Norfolk Coast and always top quality. I buy something different every time and then find a recipe to go with it, so far poached Lowestoft Skate is my favourite!

Small but perfectly formed, and it doesn’t get more local than their Jersey Cows being milked in the parlour adjoining the shop where they sell the Raw Milk. My husband loves it as Dairy Barns was a dairy farm, so he grew up on a diet of milk straight from the cow. They also stock their own beef and homemade cakes. In true Norfolk fashion, it’s also an honesty shop where you write down what you have taken and put the money in a tin.

I only discovered these guys the other day, having seen their amazing cakes on Facebook, Wow cakes to die for, freshly baked bread, my daughter Harriet said the Hot Cross Buns were the best she had tasted. Along with the most fantastic array of fresh fruit and vegetables, I came home with far more than I planned and need to find a recipe for the bright pink rhubarb that I just couldn’t resist…..

A large scale farm shop with everything you need grocery wise along with a large garden centre. They make ready meals, cakes and pastries in their kitchen and have a great selection of fresh produce. In the summer, they also offer pick your own Strawberries and Raspberries, followed by picking your own Victoria Plums and Runner Beans in the Autumn. We get most of the fruit and vegetables for our breakfast menu from here.

This is our most local farm shop just a mile down the lane from Willow and Dune Cottages. It stocks a small selection of Fruit, Vegetables and Plants. Alongside a large selection of Jams, Preserves, Sauces and sweet treats. Super convenient and some good gifts if you need to take something home for the neighbour who has been watering your plants whilst you have been away!
