Summer Sundae

Here’s an idea for entertaining the children during the long sunny school holidays.  Take some tubs of ice cream from the freezer – a choice of flavours would be ideal.  Fill several small bowls with a range of toppings and let the kids make their own ice cream sundae.  What about – summer berries, chopped fresh fruit or even nuts, chocolate shavings, coconut or mini marshmallows.  Why not make your own sauce to drizzle over the top – melted chocolate or whizz up some berries and a little icing sugar in the food processor.

You could even try your hand at making your own “cheat’s ice cream” if you have a glut of strawberries in the garden – or take a trip to your nearest Pick Your Own.  Prepare strawberries as usual, open freeze on a tray till firm, then put in a food processor with some icing sugar and blitz, leaving chunky if you prefer or you can blitz till smooth – delicious!  Eat straight away with your favourite sundae toppings as above and if there’s any left you can re-freeze.
